Merseyland Alternative Radio (MAR) raided

This statement has appeared in the British DX Club Journal, 'Communication'

"Sorry to all of our faithful listeners for the lack of any AM transmissions from late afternoon onwards on Saturday 14th May, but unfortunately one of the MAR transmitter locations (on 1314 AM) was raided by Ofcom and a lot of expensive equipment was seized. As a precaution our other AM transmitter location (on 1395 AM) was switched off. For the rest of the weekend we continued on the web only via our streams. For at least the next couple of weekends we will probably be on via our web streams only. So please understand this, MAR hasn't gone away and programmes will continue and hopefully we will be back on the AM band very soon. It's just that once you lose a good transmitter location they are very hard to replace and there aren't that many volunteers!

MAR would like to thank all of its regular listeners and please let it be known that your support is most appreciated. As we keep saying 'your texts and emails are our wages, we don't get paid for doing any of this1 and indeed it costs a small fortune to run MAR, so please keep on listening and please keep supporting one of the last few remaining traditional old style AM land based pirates in the UK! MAR have since returned on 105 with separate progs with Bert Williams 29/5 @ 1751

100.8 Central Radio also made an appearance on Monday 30 May from 0930 to 0100

Former Pirate Radio Locations To Disappear

Wirral Partnership Homes, the housing association which runs Wirral's council housing stock has decided to demolish more tha half of Wirral's tower blocks.

Moreton Height's, once home to pirate stations in the 1980's and more recently to the transmitters of legal station 7 waves community Radio is also to be demolished. This is due to the cost of refurbishment, as it would be too expensive to bring the buildings up to standard plus there is under occupation to to their decline in popularity.

May Bank Holiday Weekend 2011

1314//1395 KHz Merseyland Alternative Radio has been on since Good Friday on both frequencies plus online at: www.mar.me.uk/ 1314 is the stronger signal on Merseyside.

90.2 Radio Apapa were on for a while in the evening of Sunday 1st May.

Central Radio returned to 100.8 for their usual Bank Holiday broadcast. There was a shortage of presenters throughout the afternoon but the usual evening presenters Tom Webb and Jim Lowe were on followed by an improvised talk show with Jim Brown till 11 PM. There was no web stream available for this broadcast so there were no additional AM transmissions.

102.2 The Scene were on for a few hours on Friday 29th and Saturday 30th April

105.00 Merseyland Alternative Radio were on for several hours on Sunday and Monday 1-2 May playing music and doing adjustments.

Radio Jackie North Tribute Broadcast

Radio Jackie North did a tribute broadcast this weekend (14-15 November 2009) in memory of it's founder, the late Rick Dane.
Frequencies were 1386 AM, 105.00 FM (Via MAR) and 100.8 FM (Via Central Radio)

Merseyland Alternative radio 30th Anniversary Broadcast

MAR is currently on 1386 kHz today. (11Oct 09)

The weekend of 24th & 25th sees the 30th anniversary of when MAR first appeared on air.To celebrate this MAR will be broadcasting on both days and will feature MAR past and present, with some of the original dj's appearing alongside the current crew. The voices from the past that you will definitely be able to hear will be Dave Simpson, John Dwyer, Paul Jay, Bert Williams & Mike Stand, hopefully a few others will appear too.

There were 4 free radio stations on over the Christmas period. However, there are new stations coming on in early 2008. City Talk will be on 105.9 from 28 January. 7 Waves community Radio also have a licence for 92.1, also Toxteth Talk and Halton Fm are also due on in 2008.

87.7 Power FM. This dance station were on most days over the Christmas period.

102.2 The Scene were on 24, 25, and 26 and 31 December plus 1 January.

105 Merseyland Alternative Radio were on 24, 25, and 26 and 31 December plus 1 January.

106.1 Central Radio made their last transmission on 106.1. They hope to be on another frequency when they return. This is due to City Talk coming on 105.9
